JACKSONVILLE - North Florida men's soccer (5-6-2) travels to North Carolina to take on the 18th-ranked Charlotte 49ers in the final match of the regular season.
1. LAST TIME OUT - The Ospreys blanked FAU, 1-0 on Wednesday in the regular season home finale. Freshman
Robbie Soronellas found junior
Miguel DeLeon, Jr. in the middle of the box and he was able to curl it into the lower corner for the lead. The North Florida defense kept the Owls at bay despite the visitors firing off 10 second-half shots.
2.
THE GREAT WALL OF JACKSONVILLE - Junior
LJ Estes shared that the Osprey back line calls themselves the "Great Wall of Jacksonville" and it is true as they are ranked 52nd in the nation in GAA and second in the ASUN. North Florida has surrendered just 13 goals and have four shutouts on the season.
3. NEW OPPONENT, FAMILIAR CONFERENCE – This will be the first time meeting on the pitch between these two teams. The Ospreys do however have experience in playing against Conference USA teams, playing 18 matches. The CUSA schools own a 12-4-1 mark against UNF and this season, UNF tied FIU and beat FAU.
4. FINiSH STRONG - North Florida currently holds a five-match win streak in its final match of the regular season dating back to 2014. The Ospreys have outscored their opponent 16-2 in those matches.
5. SCOUTING THE OPPONENT - Charlotte (9-2-4) hosts the Ospreys in attempt to gain momentum going into the Conference USA tournament. They are coming off of a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion on October 27. After a five-game win streak to begin the season, October was not the best month for the 49ers. Two of the 49ers' ties and both losses came this past month. Similar to UNF, the 49ers boast a strong defense that is ranked 7th in TGAA (.560) and ranked in 10th in shutouts (7).
