Ospreys Draw with NJIT, Remain Undefeated in ASUN Women's Soccer Play

NEWARK, N.J. -- North Florida women's soccer capped a challenging ASUN road weekend with a hard fought 1-1 double overtime draw at NJIT on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Florida won the shot attempt battle in the opening half, 9-5, but all of NJIT's shots were on frame in an evenly played period
- The Osprey's converted on their only shot on goal when Thais Reiss took control in the midfield after a turnover, passed the ball ahead to Carmel Oliveira who slipped a pass to Kendra Hoffman for a scoring blast from just outside the 18-yard box
- Rhiannon Conelley turned away five shots in the first half allowing UNF to hold a 1-0 advantage at intermission
- The Highlanders would net the equalizer early in the second stanza when Christine Conaghy forced a turnover near the box, dribbled in and tucked a shot into the right side of the net
- The teams combined for 19 shots in the second half including seven shots on goal but only one attempt found the target sending the match into extra time
- NJIT amassed four shots in the first overtime period with Conelley stopping a pair to keep the score knotted 1-1
- North Florida accounted for the only scoring attempt in the final overtime session but NJIT's keeper snuffed out the try to secure the 110 minute draw

QUICK KICKS
- Hoffman collected her third goal of the season and shared the team lead with four shots (3 SOG)
- Reiss extended her streak of matches with a point to five following her third assist of the year | Reiss has now recorded points in 11 of 13 matches
- Oliveira picked up her second assist for the Ospreys 
- Conelley posted six saves in the match, marking her second highest total of 2019
- North Florida saw a span of 363 minutes of scoreless defense ended after the Highlanders second half tally
- Ospreys remained undefeated in ASUN play thru three matches including two on the road and have now gone undefeated thru five matches
- For the match, NJIT held a 20-18 edge in shot attempts but the Ospreys led 11-7 in SOGs
- With the draw, North Florida and NJIT remained tied with FGCU at 2-0-1, just two points behind Liberty at 3-1-0

"I couldn't have asked for more from our team today. NJIT is a good team and they are particularly strong on their home field. They are very hard to break down. We had chances to increase our lead in the first half and perhaps that could have been the margin we needed. In the end, a draw was a fair and well-earned result. This was a tough task in regards to how the travel and schedule fell for us, but we dealt with it and fought hard in two road conference matches to pick up four points." - Head coach Eric Faulconer
