JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida baseball team swept a Sunday doubleheader with USC Upstate, 13-6 and 3-2 in seven innings, at Harmon Stadium.
LEADING OFF
- In game two of the series, Jay Prather and Mac Wilson each had three hits to pace the Ospreys to the win. Tanner Murphy had a two-hit contest, with Prather adding a career-high four RBI in the 13-6 victory.
- Adam Polansky got the start in game two and threw 4.2 innings, while not allowing an earned run before the delay on Saturday. Ethan Michaelis came in relief on Sunday and went the distance to get the win for the Ospreys. Michaelis worked 4.1 innings as he scattered six hits, allowing three earned runs and struck out a pair of Spartans in finishing up the suspended game
- In the series finale, Dalton Board and Murphy each added a pair of base hits, while Wilson knocked in two of the three runs with Rey Gonzalez adding the last of those RBI.
- Austin Drury got the start in the finale and threw 6.1 IP and picked up the win as he allowed just four hits and a pair of runs, while striking out five. Brad Deppermann came in relief to get the final two outs and pick up his second save of the weekend.
- Murphy and Blake Voyles both extended their hit streaks to a team best 10 in a row, while Jay Prather leads the team with an 18 game on base streak.
- Murphy concluded the weekend hitting a red hot .636 (7-of-11) with a homer and a pair of RBI. Prather hit .455 against Upstate with a team best five runs driven in. As a team, UNF hit .375 for the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Two of series)
- The Ospreys jumped out to a quick lead as they loaded the bases before Blake Voyles knocked a two-run single to right to give UNF an early 2-0 lead.
- After a Spartans fielding error allowed a third Osprey run to score, Jay Prather ropped a two run double off the top of the right-center field wall to make it 5-0 Ospreys after the opening frame.
- In the second, Tanner Murphy crushed a two run shot to left field that gave the Ospreys a 7-0 advantage.
- Upstate responded in the third with back-to-back RBI singles to cut UNF's lead to 7-2.
- After an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third, the Ospreys worked a bases loaded walk, two run single and RBI double on three straight batters in the fourth to take a 12-2 lead.
- With one out in the top of the fifth, lightning would force the suspension of the contest to Sunday afternoon.
- Upon resumption of the game on Sunday, neither team was able to get anything going for the first three innings as both teams traded runs in the eighth inning.
- In the ninth, Upstate scratched across three runs, but UNF was able to hold on for the 13-6 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Three of series)
- North Florida got off to another fast start as Wilson knocked a two-run single to center after the Ospreys had gotten each of the first three prior baserunners on in front of Wilson.
- Drury was dominating the Spartans for the opening five innings as he had four 1-2-3 frames to keep the Ospreys lead at 2-0.
- In the sixth, Upstate tied the game with a two-run homer to left.
- UNF quickly responded after a Alex Reynolds two-out single, Gonzalez hit a double off the left field fence that allowed Reynolds to score from first and give UNF a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
