LAFAYETTE, La. – North Florida softball split the opening day of the Louisiana Classics with a win against Southeastern Louisiana and a loss against No. 15 Louisiana at Lamson Park.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Junior Navia Penrod went 5-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored on the day.
- Classmate Tiffany Lower led the team with five RBIs on her 2-for-6 night. She was one of two Ospreys to record an extra base hit.
- Senior Alex Arciola reached base four times on a 2-for-4 night with two walks and two runs scored.
- In the circle, Sydney Matzko improved to 3-3 on the year and now owns 42 strikeouts on the year.
GAME 1 CAPSULE
- North Florida got on the board in the first inning when a single from Dominica Cocuzza went down the line to bring in Taylor Scott from second.
- The Ospreys added to their lead in the fifth when a single, error and passed ball put Ashley Niesman on third. Penrod then recorded her second set of the game to bring in Niesman for the 2-0 lead.
- In the sixth, UNF plated Arciola when Tiffany Lower hit a single to left field. Arciola reached on a single of her own and moved over on a wild pitch. Southeastern tried to get her out at the plate, but the senior cruised in for the 3-0 win.
- Matzko tossed the complete game to move to 3-3 on the year with five hits and three walks, while striking out six.
GAME 2 CAPSULE
- With two outs and bases loaded, Lower stepped to the plate to send UNF's first triple down the right field line to bring in three runs in the top of the first.
- Louisiana didn't stay down long as it recorded six hits to plate six runs for the 6-3 advantage after one complete.
- The Ospreys scored again in the fourth when Penrod sent a single to the outfield to bring in Megan Woodson to shrink the score to 6-4.
- The Rajun Cajuns then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the same frame again for the 8-4 advantage.
- North Florida tried to climb back in with two runs with two outs in the final frame, but it was not enough to overcome the home team's lead.
