Hofstra Takes Down Ospreys in Extras

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida softball went to extra innings against Hostra and it was the Pride who came out on top with a 4-1 win on Tuesday afternoon at Jacksonville's Pruitt Softball Complex.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Junior Navia Penrod went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while three other Ospreys recorded hits.
  • Sydney Matzko scattered five hits, three walks and five strikeouts across eight innings in a no decision.
  • Sophomore Kayla McGory had the lone RBI for the Ospreys on a bunt-single to bring home Penrod.

GAME CAPSULE
  • Hofstra struck first in the top of the fifth when three straight singles loaded the bases before a walk brought in the run for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Ospreys answered in the bottom of the sixth when Penrod hit a double to right center and moved over on a ground out. 
  • McGory then dropped a well-placed bunt to allow Penrod to speed home and tie the game.
  • In the ninth, the Pride put two on and pinch hitter, Kimberly Wert, slammed a three-run homer to give Hofstra the 4-1 lead.
  • North Florida couldn't get anything going in the final frame as relief pitcher Sophie Dandola sat the home team down in order.

INSIDE THE BOX
- It was the first meeting between the two teams.
- Sophomore Morgan Blourne was tagged with the loss in her one inning pitched. She also recorded two strikeouts.
- Freshman Taylor Scott is now on a five-game hit streak, while Penrod has reached safely in five straight.
