Volleyball Bows Out of Eighth Conference Tournament in Nine Years

KENNESAW, Ga. - The last time a six-seeded team won a first round match in the ASUN Volleyball Championship was former conference member, Troy, in 2003. North Florida was poised to end that drought tonight after taking the first set, but No. 3 Lipscomb (18-12, 12-4 ASUN) roared back to win the final three sets and the match.

Behind the Box Score

There were 16 ties and nine lead changes in the first set. UNF's 5-0 run surmounted a 22-20 deficit, giving the Ospreys (11-22, 6-10 ASUN) a one-set advantage.
Lipscomb's lead hung around five points for most of the second set, but a big block from sophomore Devyn Wheeler and senior Madilyn McCarty cut the deficit to 20-18.
Both teams exhausted their timeouts as Lipscomb led, 20-19. UNF traded blows with Lipscomb before Bisons setter Morgan Elmore closed out the set with an ace.
A challenge review overturned in favor of Lipscomb erased a potential 17-14 lead, making it 16-15 Ospreys.
Senior outside hitter Carlyle Nusbaum heated up, generating four kills to put the three-seed Bisons ahead, 2-1.
The fourth set was a defensive struggle. Both teams put up 11 kills although four fewer errors on the part of the Bisons created the difference.

McCarty finished her three-year career with 2,291 assists in the Navy and Gray, sixth all-time.
Lipscomb has reached its 14th consecutive ASUN Volleyball Championship Semifinal
Lipscomb had 12 service errors tonight. UNF has only committed double-digit service errors once this season, while opponents have done so five times.
Wheeler has posted 43 kills and a .411 hitting percentage over the final three matches of the season.
Lipscomb has taken each of its three matches with UNF in 2018, 3-1.
O'Connell finished the season with 12 double-doubles, third in the ASUN
