Game Coverage
Last Time Out
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Redshirt-sophomore
Gabby O'Connell and senior
Madilyn McCarty missed double-doubles by the slimmest of margins, although the ASUN leader in digs per set was stingy when it counted as Stetson won 3-0 at the UNF Arena Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Clean Sweep
Since the Highlanders joined the ASUN in 2015, UNF has bested NJIT in five of the six meetings. In all five of those wins the Ospreys posted sweeps. UNF's lone loss came Sept. 29, 2017 in Newark, with NJIT winning, 3-1. NJIT is the only team UNF has faced in school history that hails from the Garden State.
200-200 Club
- Junior Gabby O'Connell is nearing in on reaching 200 kills and 200 digs this season. Of the top 10 players in kills in the ASUN, O'Connell has the most digs (229). Stetson's Eve Deisa is the next closest candidate for 200 kills and 200 digs; she is tied with O'Connell for sixth in the conference in kills (193). Deisa currently has 206 digs this season.
- O'Connell's defensive presence has been huge in UNF's wins. O'Connell is posting 3.50 digs/set in victories, while she is tallying 2.50 digs/set in losses.
By Committee
The Ospreys have the luxury of being able to utilize multiple options on offense. Four players have at least 144 kills, three of which are underclassmen. On defense UNF has four players with 149 or more digs, including three players that have shared time at libero and have contributed over two digs/set.
Wright's Words
"That was a really nice break, a much needed break with the crazy schedule that we've had," head coach
Kristen Wright "I thought that the girls used it well. They look fresh and we've made some really healthy changes from top down. Our goal is to let that be seen this weekend. We are just going to take it one match at a time with a young but very persistent team. They go hard, we are learning a lot and I think that this weekend is a good opportunity for us. "
