Ospreys Fall In Three To Georgia Southern

STATESBORO,Ga. - North Florida volleyball battled throughout on Friday night but came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision against host Georgia Southern in the Battle in the Boro.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening set, UNF got out to a quick 5-2 lead behind a pair of kills from Griffey, however the host Eagles responded by scoring six of the next seven points to take the 8-6 lead.
  • The Eagles got it to the biggest lead of the set at 15-11 before the Ospreys responded with a run of their own scoring five of the next six points to tie the set at 16.
  • The teams continued to battle back and forth with neither team getting a comfortable lead as the Ospreys got it to 25-24 late before three straight kills from Georgia Southern gave them the 27-25 set one win.
  • The Eagles used their momentum from the first set to jump all over UNF as the hosts hit .438 in the 25-15 set win while holding UNF to just a .125 hitting percentage.
  • Much like the opening set, the two teams played another even third set which featured nine ties and three lead changes. Both teams went on runs throughout, but neither team had bigger than a three-point lead.
  • Similar to the opening frame, the Eagles closed with three unanswered points to sweep the match.

  • Madilyn McCarty had 23 assists in the match which marks the fourth time on the season that she's had at least 20 assists.
  • Ashley LaBorde picked up a pair of aces to give her a team-leading six of the 19 service aces on the season.
  • Griffey hit .400 for the match giving her a .373 hitting percentage on the season to lead the team.

"We didn't play our best tonight and playing the home team with less than our best usually doesn't end up well. We need to do a little soul searching and come out with a different level of aggressiveness and energy tomorrow."
