Blourne Throws One-Hit Gem, Ospreys Sweep Georgia Tech

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball extended its winning streak to nine games as the Ospreys downed ACC foe Georgia Tech on Wednesday evening.

QUICK HITS
  • Freshman Morgan Blourne tossed a one-hitter as the Ospreys downed Georgia Tech in six innings. She surrendered just one hit, three walks while fanning a season-best 10 batters. 
  • For the day, Dominica Cocuzza had four RBI on four hits including three doubles. Her other hit was her third home run of the season.
  • Classmate Navia Penrod went 5-for-7 with three runs scored to improve her average to .471 on the year. She now has 56 total hits.
  • Junior Alex Arciola also went yard in game one for her second bomb of the season.

GAME CAPSULE
Game 1
  • North Florida got things started in the opening frame when freshman Kayla McGory brought Penrod home on a single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.
  • In the second, Arciola slammed a two-run roundtripper to give UNF a 3-0 advantage.
  • Georgia Tech evened the score with one swing of the bat from Kelsey Chisholm as she hit a three-run homer over the left field fence in the third.
  • The Ospreys responded with Cocuzza's two-out RBI double to take the lead in the bottom of the third.
  • In the sixth, UNF added an insurance run when Ashley Niesman sent a single to center field allowing Cocuzza to score after reaching on a walk.
  • Senior Logan Green tossed the complete game and left nine runners stranded en route to her eighth win of the season.

Game 2
  • The Ospreys once again scored in the first inning when Penrod crossed the plate on another McGory single.
  • Both teams bats were quiet in the second and third inning before Cocuzza got things started in the bottom of the fourth with a home run to dead center field.
  • UNF continued scoring as it loaded the bases on two walks and a single before Taylor Aguayo sent a hit to the outfield allowing two runs to come around and score for the 4-0 advantage.
  • Blourne allowed just two batters to reach in the fifth in sixth before the Ospreys took control of the game in the bottom of the final frame.
  • Penrod's single scored Megan Jeffrey who pinch ran for Jenna Brownell. Brownell reached on a fielder's choice to deep short stop.
  • A walk to Macayla Kelley loaded the bases before a four-ball walk to McGory scored the sixth run of the game.
  • With the bases still loaded and two outs, Cocuzza sent a ball to deep left field to bring in the seventh and eighth runs to close out the game.
  • Blourne improved to 7-3 on the season and now has 53 strikeouts on the season.

OUTSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Reigning ASUN Player of the Week, Cocuzza,  is currently on 13-game hit streak, while she has now reached base safely in 16 straight games.
- North Florida now owns four shut outs on the season.
