JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's tennis battled South Alabama and got some great wins in singles, but it was not enough as the Jaguars took the win, 4-3, on a cold, windy Sunday afternoon.
QUICK HITS
- For the first time in six matches, the Ospreys came up short in doubles play.
- North Florida battled 25mph wind gusts and winds as it competed against South Alabama.
- The Ospreys grabbed victories in the No. 1, 3 and 4 singles matches including sweeps from
Michelle Valdez and
Quetzali Vazquez.
-
Irina Karangozishvili battled to get her win in the No. 4 spot. She defeated Laura Matuskova 6-4 before the match was delayed for rain. She came out strong to go up 5-0 in the second set, but Matuskova pushed back to a tie break and eventually got the win.
- Despite South Alabama clinching the match in the No. 2 position, the No. 4 singles continued to battle into a third set tie break. Karangozishvili dug deep and grabbed the win in a close 7-6 (6) win to make it a 4-3 match.
SAY WHAT
"Today was a really good battle for us, but we need everyone to show up together. Our girls did a great job responding to the rain delay and some pretty tough weather to play tennis in to compete well. We keep getting better and are looking forward when everyone brings it together each time." -
