Post Play Shuts Down Women's Basketball

JACKSONVILLE - Stetson led from start to finish en route to a 62-44 victory against North Florida women's basketball on Saturday afternoon.

The Short Story: Stetson held UNF to just three points in the first quarter and never looked back as the Hatters grabbed 16 offensive boards and had 39 points in the paint to take the season sweep.

-.Junior Maiya Rumph led the team with nine points and seven rebounds, while Jaiveonna Norris also put in nine points with four rebounds and two steals.
- Simone Brown had seven points, four rebounds and four helpers.
- For Stetson, Sarah Sagerer totaled a game-high 19 points with nine rebounds, while also dishing three assists.

GAME CAPSULE
First Half Trends
  • Stetson opened the game on an 11-1 run to start before Tesh Hanson ended the stretch, grabbing an offensive board and putting it back up to end the stretch.
  • The Ospreys then held the Hatters without a basket for four minutes until Kennedi Colclough ended the skid and Brianti Saunders closed up the quarter with a triple to give the visitors for a 16-3 lead.
  • The three points in the first quarter are a season-low for UNF.
  • North Florida opened the second on a 12-4 run to pull within 20-17 on a pair of makes from Norris.
  • Stetson pulled out in front by five, but Adrienne Jackson came down the floor and hit a triple with 30 seconds left to make it a 26-24 halftime score.
Second Half Trends
  • The teams kept it close through the opening minutes with UNF down by just five with 6:06 to play. The Hatters then went on a 10-4 run to take a double-digit lead.
  • Rumph hit a mid-range jumper to bring it to within nine, but Stetson ran back up the floor with Sagerer hitting a lay up to take the 43-32 lead after three.
  • In the fourth, Stetson ballooned its lead to 62-40 as it held UNF to just three baskets through eight minutes of play.
  • North Florida did keep Stetson off the board for the final two minutes of the game, but it was not enough as Rumph was the lone scorer for the Ospreys as time expired.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • UNF scored 44 points both times it met Stetson.
  • North Florida outscored the Hatters, 21-10, in the second to reach 20 points in a quarter for the first time since December 31 at home. UNF also hit 25 in the first frame in the win against USC Upstate.
  • Stetson outshot the home team, 41.7 (25-60) percent to 34.8 (16-46) percent. 
  • For the first time this season, no Osprey reached double figures.
  • Stetson grabbed 16 offensive boards to score 17 second chance points with 11 of those rebounds coming in the second half.
  • The 39 points in the paint are the most given up since No. 7 Florida State scored 44.
