10/25/2017 10:52:00 PM | Men's Soccer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – The North Florida men's soccer team knocked off in-state rival, Jacksonville, 2-1, on Wednesday at Southern Oak Stadium to continue its push for the ASUN Championship.
Â
The Ospreys went to 2-9-2, 1-3-1 in the ASUN, while the Dolphins fell to 3-9-1, 1-3-1 on the season.
GOALS
JU, 4' – Steven Saunders (Assist: Ejiroghene Mrabure)
UNF, 10' – Adrian Nunez (Unassisted)
UNF, 45' – Josh Castellanos (Assist: Mikey Connell)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jacksonville goalkeeper took a free kick from his own 18 yard box that deflected off a UNF defender. Saunders collected the ball inside 18 and finished the open goal.
- In the seventh minute, Adrian Nunez struck a shot just outside the box with his left foot that hit the right post and went across the face of the goal before it went out of bounds.
- Three minutes later, UNF had a free kick opportunity at the top of the circle outside the 18. Nunez bent the shot around the JU wall and into the left corner of the goal.
-Â The Ospreys kept the attacking pressure early in the game. Nunez sent in a corner kick that Blake Sams collected and took a shot in traffic that ricocheted off the left post.
- As the clock was expiring in the first half, the Ospreys had a free kick just above the end line. Connell crossed the ball inside the box before Castellanos headed in the game-winning goal.
- With a minute to play in the game, AJ Williams had a breakaway with the JU goalie and pushed it just wide.

MARINATOS SPEAKS
"We've been through a lot this year as a group and as a team. I'm proud of our players and of our staff. All the credit goes to them. They put in the work and all the tireless hours. We knew something good was coming. We could feel it. We've been playing well the past couple weeks and for us to get a barrel point, keep the cup and get three more points in the conference is huge. The job's not done. We're going to enjoy the win, but we are going to focus on Saturday and get more points to make sure we are in the playoffs."
GAME NOTES
- A red card was issued to JU in the 33rd minute and played a man down the rest of the game.
-Â UNF held a 16-8 shots advantage including an 11-4 surplus in the first half.
- The physical game saw 20 fouls, 13 from the Dolphins, five yellow cards and one red card.
- Juanes Fajardo generated five saves in the match.
