Ospreys Hold Off Stetson For Five-Set Victory

DeLand, Fla. - North Florida volleyball survived a late rally from host Stetson en route to a five-set victory in ASUN play on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening set, both teams stayed close as it got to 16-all with 12 ties before the Ospreys created separation. North Florida closed on a 9-3 run behind the power of four kills from Griffey as the Ospreys took the set 25-19.
  • In the second stanza, the two teams traded leads before knotting it at 12 with Raicevic and Griffey contributing five combined kills. Wheeler helped serve the Ospreys to four unanswered points creating a 16-12 advantage.
  • After trading points, the visitors finished off the Hatters with five of the final seven points behind kills from Wheeler and Hoff.
  • The Hatters came out quick after the break with the hosts jumping on UNF with a 12-5 run to open the set and never looked back.
  • In the fourth, the two teams traded runs including seven ties with the last coming at 10-10. After the two teams traded scoring spurts, the Hatters closed on an 8-2 surge to force a fifth set.
  • In the deciding frame, the two squads got to 9-9 with Hoff tallying three of her match-high 19 kills. She recorded two more to give the Ospreys a 12-10 advantage, but the Hatters grabbed two straight points to tie it again.
  • With the win in sight, the Ospreys scored the final three points to claim the victory.

Quick Hits
  • Turner help set up the Ospreys offense as she shattered her career-high with 59 assists. Turner's previous top mark came against Coastal Carolina in September 2014 when she had 36 helpers.
  • Hoff tallied a season-high 19 kills which is also the team's high for the season.
  • Turner picked up her team leading fifth double-double while Wheeler added the first of her career with her 16 kills and 16 digs.
  • LaBorde set a new career-high with 34 digs. LaBorde's previous top mark came against Jacksonville in October 2016 when she collected 30 digs. 
  • The win snaps a five-match skid and is the first in the ASUN for the Ospreys.
  • North Florida matched a season-high with 69 kills and its .247 hitting percentage ranks fourth on the year.
