Volleyball Looks to Bounce Back against FAMU on Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida volleyball looks to bounce back at home against Florida A&M on Tuesday. The match, brought to you by VyStar Credit Union, is set for 6 p.m. in UNF Arena.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
FAMU is currently 3-0 on the season, most recently defeating Jacksonville in straight sets on September 17. The Rattlers have played two other opponents that UNF has faced, losing 3-0 to Coastal Carolina and going 1-1 against FIU. Nicole Abreu leads the team with 141 kills and is hitting .233 on the season. She also owns 10 aces. Elena Dimitrova runs the offense with 236 total assists, while Valeria Lopez helps out, averaging 7.16 assists. Nair Canessa is a threat from behind the service line and at the net with a team-high 17 aces and 23 blocks, respectively. As a team, FAMU is hitting .162 and averaging 11.3 kills per set.

STOP IT!
Senior Morgan Van Alstine continues to have a hot streak at the net with 60 total blocks. She is ranked 35th in the country and first in the ASUN in the same category.

NEWBIE NO MORE
Despite being in just her first year of collegiate volleyball, freshman Gabby O'Connell is making a splash on the attack, leading the conference in total attempts with 493. She is third in the conference in total kills with 120 and has led the team in seven games.

RUN THE OFFENSE
North Florida is 6-1 when tallying more assists than the opponent, while also posting a 6-0 mark when hitting above .200.

MAKING MOVES
Junior Carinne Turner has moved from setter to outside hitter and part time middle blocker. Turner has now led the team in kills in three of the last five games.

JUST KEEP DIGGING
Senior Kimberly Ferguson is now playing libero full time after Ashley LaBorde went out with an injury. Thanks to the duo though, UNF is ranked 40th in the nation in total digs and third in the ASUN.

LOOKING FORWARD
North Florida heads into conference play this week, kicking off opening weekend with crosstown rival Jacksonville on Friday at 7 p.m.
