JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Mariella Calderon grabbed two wins against USF, but it was not enough as the Bulls took the 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Courts.

Calderon celebrated her senior day prior to the match and it powered her through to victories in doubles and singles. She won with partner Michelle Valdez, 6-4, in the No. 3 doubles spot before adding another victory in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-4.

"I am so proud of Mariella. I don't even have words to express how incredibly strong she is and how proud I am of her," said head coach Audra Cohen. "Last year her father passed away and her mother was receiving a stem cell transplant. For Mariella to stay tough and graduate as a senior and leader of the program is one of the most amazing moments for this program. Her father is looking down and is very proud, as are all of us."

In addition to Calderon's singles win, Quetzali Vazquez won in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 position. At the No. 1 spot, Noemi Hemmerich defeated Jessica Chaves, 6-4, 6-4. 

After USF took the doubles point, the Bulls set themselves up for the win with the wins in the other singles matches.

"Today was very well fought on both ends. While it was tough to come up just short, I felt we played solid tennis on each court," added Cohen. "We have played a lot of matches reliant on our competitiveness and today I felt we played better tennis while competing hard. We will take a lot of positives from this match and use the momentum to close out our regular conference schedule."

The Ospreys host one final non-conference match when UCF comes to town on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m.
