Intert Grabs Victory, @OspreyWTen Remains Undefeated in A-Sun

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Luise Intert clinched her matched at the No. 4 spot to secure a 4-3 victory for North Florida women's tennis against FGCU on Thursday afternoon as the Ospreys remain undefeated in Atlantic Sun play.

UNF moves to 10-5 on the season and 5-0 in league action heading into its final conference match against Stetson on Saturday, April 16. FGCU moves to 10-8 and 4-1 in A-Sun play.

"I am so proud of how the girls fought back after a disappointing doubles point," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We showed grit and determination in singles and Luise did an unbelievable job staying focused on her court to clinch the match."

With the match in UNF's favor at 3-2, Intert moved into a third set after dropping a disappointing 2-6 decision in the second frame. The Germany native bounced back in the final frame to defeat Julianna Curtis, 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Ospreys.

Prior to Intert's game-winning set, junior Quetzali Vazquez snagged a shut out win, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot before freshman Rafaela Gomez added to North Florida's score with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 3 position.

"Quetzali didn't lose a game today and the girl she played had beaten her in the fall," added Cohen. "It was very impressive and I am happy to see her enjoy the benefits of her hard work."

It was a 2-1 game when junior Michelle Valdez defeated the Eagles, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot which left it in the hands of Intert, Noemi Hemmerich at No. 1 or Mariella Calderon in No. 6.

The Eagles grabbed the point in the No. 6 singles match which meant Intert or Hemmerich had the chance to clinch. The victory was sealed as Intert put Curtis away. In the No. 1 position Hemmerich dropped her first set, but responded with a tightly-contested second frame, 7-5. However, it was FGCU's Breana Stampfli who grabbed the win with a 6-2 in the final frame.

UNF now takes a short break from conference play to host UCF on Saturday at noon.
