TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team defeated Florida A&M 7-4 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader, before falling 6-1 in the second game Wednesday in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Ospreys (15-20) packaged together seven runs on 12 hits in an eight-inning game one win, but were stifled in the second game, leaving seven runners on base.
Game 1 – North Florida 7, FAMU 4
The Ospreys broke a stalemate after two innings through back-to-back RBI hits from seniors
Katie Mandigo and
Shelby Duncan, taking a 2-0 lead.

Jenna Brownell pushed the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, her first career home run.

Minnie Cocuzza made the lead 4-0 in the top of the sixth, doubling to left field to score senior
Lexi Taylor.
Florida A&M battled back and was able to tie up the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the bottom of the seventh, forcing extra innings.
The Ospreys put up three runs in the top of the eighth, with freshman
Navia Penrod, Duncan and sophomore
Alex Arciola earning RBIs.
Game 2 – FAMU 6, North Florida 1
The second game of the day was a different story for the Ospreys, who mustered only four hits and stranded seven runners on the bags.
Florida A&M jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, before pushing the lead to 3-0 after three innings, 5-0 after five innings, and 6-0 after 6 innings.
The Ospreys scored one run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh, but were unable to get a final-inning rally going.

North Florida returns to conference play and the UNF Softball Complex this weekend, when they face Lipscomb in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
