JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team fell to the 25
th-ranked UCF Knights 7-2 in their home opener Wednesday night at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys (4-12) were plagued by early errors but managed to keep the contest close until the final inning.
UCF started off the scoring with a four-run second inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double down the left field line by Jasmine Acevedo.
The Ospreys responded in the bottom of the third, when senior
Shelby Duncan cut the lead to 4-2 with a two-out, two-RBI single to right-center.
Following four scoreless innings, the Knights pushed the lead to 7-2 in a three-run seventh inning. Highlighted by a two-RBI double by Courtney Rotton.
Junior
Logan Green pitched six and one-third innings for the Ospreys, allowing three earned runs, while walking only one and striking out two.
North Florida is back in action with a trip to UCF for their fourth tournament of their season. They'll play LIU-Brooklyn, La Salle, Middle Tennessee and South Dakota starting Friday.
