@OspreySB Earns Sweep of Day Two in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. The North Florida Softball team battled for two one-run wins in their second day of the USF Under Armour Showcase Saturday at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
 
The Ospreys defeated Winthrop 9-8 in come-from-behind fashion in the early game of the day. They beat Maine in the nightcap, 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
 
Game One
 
The Ospreys took an early lead with a two-run top of the first through RBI singles by senior Shelby Duncan and sophomore Ashley Niesman.
 
Winthrop halved the lead in the bottom half of the first, before taking a 8-2 lead in the bottom of the second with a seven-run frame.
 
The Ospreys cut the lead to 8-6 in the top of the sixth, with senior Lexi Taylor driving in three runs with a three-run home run. Senior Katie Mandigo followed with a RBI single to complete the four-run inning.
 
North Florida took the lead in the top of the seventh with a three-run inning. Sophomore Alex Arciola tripled in two runs, followed by a RBI single by Taylor for the eventual game-winning run.
 
Game Two
 
The Ospreys broke the stalemate in the fourth inning with a RBI bunt by freshman Navia Penrod, followed  by a RBI single by Mandigo.
 
Maine managed to tie the game going into the final inning, but freshman Minnie Cocuzza earned the walk-off win for the Ospreys with a single down the left field line.
 
Junior Logan Green earned the win in the nightcap, throwing a complete game with five strikeouts, while scattering eight hits.
 
Next Up
 
The Ospreys are back in action tomorrow for one final game against the host South Florida. This game will be in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Softball Schedule. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
