CLEARWATER, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team split their opening day of the USF Under Armour Showcase Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The Ospreys defeated Fairfield 4-1 in the early game, before dropping their afternoon contest with Southern Illinois 4-0.
Game One Fairfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Ospreys responded by tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the second with a RBI single by freshman
Navia Penrod.
North Florida then pushed ahead, adding a run to their lead in the fourth, fifth and seventh inning via RBI doubles by seniors
Lexi Taylor and
Shelby Duncan, as well as a RBI single by freshman
Jenna Brownell.
Duncan finished 3-for-4 to lead the Ospreys' offense, while junior
Logan Green earned the win, throwing a complete game while allowing just four hits.
Game Two The Ospreys were shut out in their second game of the day by Southern Illinois 4-0, mustering only four hits while stranding five runners.
The Salukis started off with three runs in the bottom of the first, then pushed the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Penrod finished 2-for-3 to lead the Ospreys.
Next Up The Ospreys are back in action tomorrow for the second day of the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. They'll face Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. before playing Maine at 6:30 p.m.
