LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team won a 2-1 nail-biter with Penn State 2-1 to close their weekend at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Ospreys now sit at 4-11 after a 2-3 outing in the tournament.
Senior
Shelby Duncan put the Ospreys on the board early in the top of the first with a two-run shot over the left-field wall, scoring senior
Katie Mandigo.
The Ospreys defense took it from there, as junior
Logan Green got out of several jams with no damage, except a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout. In total, Green scattered eight hits and walked one, while stranding eight total Penn State runners in the complete-game outing.
Duncan added a double and a single to finish 3-for-3 on the day to lead the Ospreys' offense.
North Florida is back in action Wednesday when they face 22
nd-ranked UCF in their home opener at 5 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.
