LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team defeated Bryant in a comeback win in their first game of the day and were shut out by Fordham in their second game of their first day at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
The Ospreys (3-9) won a back and forth game with Bryant to start the day. After Bryant started the game with a 3-0 lead, North Florida cut the lead to 3-2 in part to a RBI triple by senior
Shelby Duncan.
Fordham stretched the lead to 7-2 going into the top of the second, but the Ospreys started chipping away. Senior
Katie Mandigo knocked in a three-run home run to cut the Bryant lead to 7-5 after two innings, followed by a RBI single by junior
Jen Valle in the bottom of the third.
Following two scoreless innings, the Ospreys took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with what proved to be the game-winning two-RBI single by Duncan, who finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the offense.
Junior
Katie Beth Gordon earned the win for the Ospreys, throwing five scoreless innings and allowing only one base runner, while striking out four.
In the second game of the day, the Ospreys couldn't package hits together in a 3-0 shutout loss to Fordham, who took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run and extended it to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth.
Senior
Stacy McClelland led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
The Ospreys are back in action tomorrow when they face East Carolina at 11 a.m. and Notre Dame at 1:15 p.m.
