MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team closed their weekend at the Madeira Beach Invitational with a 4-0 win over Manhattan and a 4-3 loss to Marist Sunday.
In the first game of the day, the Ospreys (2-8) took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind a RBI ground-out from junior
Ashia Kerr, followed by a two-RBI triple by sophomore
Ashley Niesman.
The Ospreys pushed the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth when senior
Shelby Duncan scored a RBI double. Duncan finished 2-for-2, while freshman
Navia Penrod went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Junior
Logan Green earned a win in the circle for the Ospreys, striking out six while scattering seven hits across the complete game shutout.
In the second game of the day, the Ospreys mounted a late seventh inning rally to tie the game, but Marist earned the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh, 4-3.
The Red Foxes took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and pushed it to 3-0 in the fifth inning.
The Ospreys three-run seventh inning was started by a two-RBI double by Penrod, then followed by a RBI single by senior
Katie Mandigo. Mandigo finished 4-for-4 to lead the offense.
North Florida is back in action next weekend in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., at the Disney Citrus Classic at the Wide World of Sports Complex.
