BATON ROUGE, La. – The North Florida Softball team dropped both of their games in their second day at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. Saturday.
Game 1The Ospreys were edged by Ohio State 2-1 in the final inning in the first game of the day. The Buckeyes took the early lead in the third with a solo home run. The Ospreys managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh when sophomore
Casey Estes scored on a passed ball.
The Buckeyes walked off with the win in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single.
Freshman
Navia Penrod went 2-for-4, while sophomore
Ashley Niesman went 1-for-3 with a double to lead the Ospreys' offense.
Senior
Janet Snipe only allowed 6 hits to the Buckeyes in seven innings of work for the Ospreys' defense.
Game 2North Florida faced Pacific in their second game of the day, falling to the Tigers 5-0. Pacific took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run, then pushed the lead to 5-0 with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth, two from an Ospreys throwing error and the third from a sacrifice bunt.
Leading the Ospreys offense was Penrod, who went 2-for-3 with a double, senior
Shelby Duncan added the other hit for North Florida.
The Ospreys fall to 0-4 overall and now look to close out the Tiger Classic on a high note in another matchup with Connecticut Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
