Moore's Buzz Beater Gives Ospreys 76-75 Win over North Dakota

QUICK GLANCE
Score: North Florida 76, North Dakota 75
Final Boxscore (pdf)
Records: North Florida (3-3) | North Dakota (3-1)
Location: Nutter Center (Dayton, Ohio)
The Short Story: Senior Dallas Moore dropped in a floating layup with two seconds left to play giving the North Florida men's basketball team a hard fought 76-75 victory over North Dakota in the first on-site game of the Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC) Classic. UND's standout guard Quinton Hooker, who finished with 29 points, missed a late free throw that set-up the dramatic closing sequence.

OPENING TIP
- North Florida blistered the nets at a 62% (18-29) clip in the first half, helping team build as large as a 14-point lead in the frame. Despite the hot shooting, UNF fell behind by 7 points early in the half after committing seven turnovers in the first eight minutes. In the second half, the Ospreys went 8-26 (30%) and survived an 11-minute span without a field goal to secure the victory.
- Dallas Moore, the preseason ASUN Player of the Year, was 7-17 from the floor including three treys while also pulling down a near team-high six rebounds along with three assists and two steals.
- UNF also got double digit performances from freshman Garrett Sams (14 points), junior Romelo Banks (14 points) and senior Chris Davenport (10 points). Davenport also hauled down team-high eight rebounds and dished out four assists to pace the squad.
- North Dakota's Hooker, the Big Sky Preseason Player of the Year, was 11-18 from the field with 4 treys

GAME TRENDS
- After some early back-and-forth, UND earned the early momentum following a 12-2 run that gave them a 16-9 advantage. Moore would hit a "3" with 13:10 left to end the run and spark a response by the Ospreys, who regained the lead after scoring 10 consecutive points including back-to-back buckets from Banks and a jumper from Sams.
- Minutes later, UNF would widen the margin by outscoring the Fighting Hawks, 15-3, over a five minute span.
- An 8-point surge for North Dakota trimmed the Osprey advantage to single digits, 47-39, at the halftime break
- After Moore hit a 3-pointer to start the second half, UND rallied back with a 22-7 spurt to regain the lead by 4 at 61-57 with 8:32 remaining. During the span, North Florida missed 10 straight shots during an 11-minute drought from the floor. UNF was able to convert seven free throws to keep in the scoring column.
- Davenport ended the slump with a jumper, spurring UNF on a 16-6 surge of their own that pushed the Ospreys back in front, 73-67, with just over 4 minutes left on the clock.
- North Dakota anwered with seven consecutive points to take a 74-73 edge before a free throw by Sams knotted the game at 74 with 1:00 to play and set up the final thrilling action.
- Hooker got an open look at a three-pointer with under 40 seconds left in the game and then UND regained the ball after the 21st turnover of the night for the Ospreys. Moore was whistled for a defensive foul against Hooker at the :18 mark sending him to the line for a pair of FTs. He missed the first and converted the second giving UND the one-point lead. Moore would hold the ball for several seconds before driving left into the lane and lifting the floater from the middle of the lane up and through the net with just a few ticks showing on the clock. UND inbounded but were unable to get the final shot to fall as UNF's Aaron Bodager hauled in the last rebound.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Ospreys connected on a season-high matching 8 three-pointers including 6 in the first half
- UNF outrebounded its third straight opponent and fifth of the season
- Moore's 20-point effort pulled him to within a single point of moving into the ASUN Top 20 Career Points list
- North Florida's defense held North Dakota to 22 points below their season scoring average of 97.7 ppg
- Booker became just the second Osprey opponent to eclipse the 20-point mark this season and his 29 points marked the most surrendered by UNF this year

SAY WHAT...
"This tournament features four really good teams so we knew and expected that we'd have to battle for 40 minutes to get a win. All the teams are very similar. I have to give credit to our guys for executing the game plan down the stretch. I told Dallas during one of the final timeouts that he needed to step up and go make some plays and to his credit that's what he did at the end by making a floater that he works on every day. I thought we rebounded well and were able to get some stops down the stretch. However, we still made too many turnovers and that's something we just have to keep looking at and figure out a way to take care of the ball better. North Dakota fought and battled just like I expected them to do. We have a quick turnaround for our game tomorrow so we need to get some rest but be ready to go." -- Head coach Matthew Driscoll
