Moore's Career High 37 Paces Ospreys in 109-73 Win Over Edward Waters

Final Boxscore (pdf)

JACKSONVILLE -- Senior Dallas Moore scorched the nets for a career-high 37 points in leading the North Florida men's basketball team to a dominating 109-73 victory over in-town foe Edward Waters, Monday night in the squad's home opener at UNF Arena.

Moore got things going early as the standout guard netted the team's first 10 points en route to a quick 10-2 advantage. He connected on his first five shots and finished the night 13-20 from the floor including a 5-of-10 effort from long distance and a perfect 6-6 outing at the free throw line. He also added five rebounds and a team-best five assists with no turnovers in the victory.

The Ospreys capitalized on Moore's outstanding performance and built a double-digit advantage midway through the opening half. Moore sparked a 12-0 surge later in the first period assisting on a basket by Chris Davenport before connecting on a lay-up and back-to-back treys for himself. Nick Malonga wrapped up the run with a driving lay-up. UNF would score the final 12 points of the half to enter the break with a 60-34 advantage.

UNF would continue to dominate play in the second half, pushing the margin over 30 after just five minutes of play. North Florida reached the century mark on a free throw by Karlos Odum with four minutes left in the contest, marking the 30th triple digit total in program history and seventh in the Division I era.

For the game, UNF shot 51 percent from the field and 73 percent at the free throw line but struggled from long distance making just 6 of 20 three-point attempts. In addition, the Ospreys committed 18 turnovers to just 12 for the Tigers and the teams were whistled for a combined 58 fouls leading to 81 free throw attempts.

North Florida continues its busy opening week of competition, making a quick return to the hardwood to host Miami on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Quotable...
"It was obviously a great night for us, coming off the game Friday night with a quick turnaround. We have another quick turnaround to get ready for Wednesday night and then have to catch a flight Thursday morning to go play at LSU on Friday. The guys understand that's how it is for us but the one thing that is great about them is their attitudes and love for each other. I couldn't be more proud of how Dallas responded from Friday's performance (1-13 from the field) to his showing today (career high 37 points). He worked hard in practice and watched a lot of tape and made the type of adjustments that great players make. He has really grown up and matured during his career and tonight he was probably the loudest I've seen him on the floor, as far as coaching up his teammates. The game at Auburn was an anomaly for Dallas Moore, it just doesn't happen to him very often. I'm also very proud of Romelo and his development. He has learned to take coaching, listen to advice from experience people and really worked on his mental approach to life and the game." -- Head coach Matthew Driscoll
