Raicevic's Double-Double Powers Volleyball Past Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It was the true definition of the River City Rumble as each set was a margin of two points, but it was North Florida volleyball who was on the right side of the scoreboard at the end as the Ospreys grabbed the 3-1 won, on Friday evening at UNF Arena.

RECORDS: UNF 15-9, 5-3 ASUN | JU 6-15, 2-6 ASUN

LOESWICK'S THOUGHTS

"We were down a lot of points in that fourth set and we just talked about keeping our composure and making one play at a time. I was really proud of how they stayed in the moment and didn't really worry about the score. We had some really nice serves that kept them out of system and defensively we controlled the ball and got some good transition swings."

POWER HITTER
Junior Katarina Raicevic powered to a career-best 18 kills and added 10 digs for her second career double-double. She was also just two block assists short of a triple-double. Raicevic also hit .356 for the match with an ace and two assists.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Gabby O'Connell - 18 kills, 16 digs, 3 aces
Ashley Laborde - Career-high 30 digs
Erin Edwards - 10 kills, 6 block assists
Carinne Turner - 11 kills, 8 digs
Madilyn McCarty - 56 assists, 7 digs, 3 blocks

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set featured seven tie scores going late into the set. North Florida held off the Dolphins' set point five times as UNF made its comeback and took the frame in extras, 27-25.

The Ospreys got off to a hot start in set three to lead 7-3, but the Dolphins fought back to take the lead at 10-9. The rest of the frame featured 11 ties and eight lead changes, but the final one came to UNF with a kill from Gabby O'Connell at 23-22. The Ospreys then closed set with a 2-1 run to lead 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Similiar to the first meeting between the teams when UNF led after two, Jacksonville came back out ready to battle. UNF owned a 12-6 lead, but Jacksonville used a 9-3 run to tie the game at 15-all. The Ospreys continued to lead late into the set at 23-20 before the Dolphins responded to lead 24-23. North Florida twice stopped the set point, but the visitors came out on top on a final miscue from the Ospreys.

Jacksonville kept grinding in the fourth frame as the visitors owned a 15-8 lead to force a North Florida timeout. Out of the pause, the Ospreys were ready to take the match in four.  A Raicevic ace capped a 16-9 run that tied the game at 23-all. Kills from O'Connell and Turner put UNF out front and gave the Ospreys the 3-1 win.
