GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Florida men's soccer team (2-4) will play the first of two games in North Carolina this weekend when they square off against UNC Greensboro (3-1-1) on Friday night. The middle game of a three-game stint away from Hodges Stadium is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
Welcome Back: The Ospreys will return to Greensboro for the first time since 2011. The only prior meeting between UNC Greensboro and North Florida occurred on Sept. 9, 2011 when the Spartans captured a 3-0 victory.
Creating Chances: There has been no shortage of shots taken by the North Florida attack this season. Including the 16 shots on Monday night, North Florida leads the Atlantic Sun with 91 shots in six games. The Ospreys have out-shot their opponents in all but one match this season (vs. UNCW, 11-10).
Nasta PK Save: In Monday night's loss to USF, goalkeeper
Kyle Nasta denied Brendan Hines-Ike's penalty shot late in the second half. The PK save was the first by an Osprey keeper since Andrew Calise made a stop against Mercer in 2010.
Climbing the Ladder: Friday's game will be the 57 appearance in an Osprey uniform by redshirt senior
Casey Caronis. He will take over sole possession of fifth place on the program's D-1 era (2005-present) game's played list.
About UNCG: The Spartans are a team on the rise, receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division I National Poll conducted by TopDrawerSoccer.com. They have scored 10 goals in five games and are coming off a 2-0 shutout over UT Rio Grande Valley last Friday. The UNCG attack is led by Damieon Thomas who collected Southern Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday. The junior has a point in all four games he's appeared in this season, including a goal in the last three games.
A Look Ahead: Awaiting the Ospreys on Monday night is the No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels. Prior to the match, the Tar Heels will engage in a highly anticipated contest against No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
