FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the second game in the A-Sun Tournament for the North Florida softball team, the Ospreys had no answer for the USC Upstate offense, falling 13-1 in five innings in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Ospreys (31-27) now enter the elimination bracket and face Stetson in a win or go home contest today at 5:30 p.m.
USC Upstate opened with a 2-0 lead after one inning with a two-RBI single. The Spartans then pushed the lead to 6-0 after two innings with a run walked in and then a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple.
The Spartans opened up the game in the bottom of the third with seven runs. a bunt single and a sacrifice fly brought in two runs, followed by an RBI single and back-to-back two-RBI doubles to push the lead to 13-0.
The Ospreys got on the board but could avoid the run rule. Junior
Stacy McClelland notched the lone RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Senior
Kelly Wilson in the top of the fifth.
