FORT MYERS, Fla. – North Florida (44-14) collected 14 more hits and got another excellent pitching effort in an 8-3 victory over Jacksonville (26-30) this afternoon. The Ospreys move to 2-0 in the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and will play Lipscomb at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

The North Florida offense picked up right where it left off yesterday and have now scored 22 runs in two games. The Ospreys jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. A four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth blew the game open and was capped off by Donnie Dewees' 18th home run of the year.

Right in the middle of the Osprey scoring was redshirt senior Ryan Roberson who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. He gave North Florida the initial lead in the first inning with an infield hit that scored Kyle Brooks. Two innings later he delivered a two-out, RBI single to give the Ospreys a 3-1 advantage. He is now tied for third in the A-Sun with 62 RBIs this season.

In line with the potent offense, the North Florida pitching staff also got it done led by starter Bryan Baker. After struggling with his control early, the sophomore righty retired 15 of the last 18 batters he faced. He fanned a season-high six batters and improved to 6-2 on the season. He's allowed two or less runs in his last three starts.

Dewees put forth his 13th, three-hit effort and raised his average to .432 on the season. His fourth inning home run broke school's D-1 era record for home runs in a season. Coming into the game as the nation's leader in hits, he ups his total to 104 on the season which is tied for the sixth most in a single year in Atlantic Sun Conference history.

Each player in the Osprey lineup reached base for Smoke Laval's club including lead-off man Kyle Brooks. The junior shortstop went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. He started the four-run rally in the fourth with a two-out single to left field. The hit extended the frame and allowed Dewees to blast the first pitch he saw over the right field wall.

The Ospreys also flashed the leather in today's contest and got two superb plays from left fielder Nick Karmeris. The junior made a leaping grab to rob a home run off the bat of designated hitter Drew Luther in the top of the third. In the inning prior, he started the relay that cut down Samuel Armstrong at the plate to end the inning. Karmeris also contributed at the plate and was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The outfield assist by Karmeris was the 17th for the Ospreys this season who are one of four teams in the country with 17 or more outfield assists.

Including today's win, the Ospreys won four out of the five meetings against the Dolphins this season and properly avenged a 2014 A-Sun Tournament extra-inning loss that eliminated North Florida from the postseason.

North Florida sits in good position and will play the winner of Thursday night's game between Stetson and Lipscomb. Tomorrow's game will be played at 11:00 a.m. and will be aired live on ESPN3.
