@OspreySB Splits Doubleheader with Stetson to close A-Sun Slate

DELAND, Fla. – The North Florida softball team split their final two conference games Wednesday with the Stetson Hatters in DeLand, Fla.

The Ospreys (30-24, 12-9 A-Sun) fell in game one 3-2, but were able to rebound and defeat the Hatters (26-16, 9-9 A-Sun) 8-2 in the second game of the night.

Game one opened on a 2-0 Stetson lead after two innings as the Hatters got one run off of a sacrifice fly and another from a solo home run.

The Ospreys cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third from a RBI single by junior Stacy McClelland, North Florida then tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth from a sacrifice fly by senior Kelly Wilson.

Stetson was held scoreless for five innings until the bottom of the seventh, where they earned the 3-2 walk-off win from a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.

In game two, the Ospreys bats got going early. In the top of the first, McClelland gave North Florida a 2-0 lead off of her eleventh home run of the season, a towering shot to center field.

In the top of the second, senior Abby Tewey added to the lead with a solo shot to center field, pushing the lead to 3-0.

The Ospreys opened the game up in the top of the sixth. Wilson first scored one run on a RBI double to the left-center gap to make it 4-0.

Later in the inning, McClelland belted a line-drive grand slam to right field for her second home run of the day and 12th of the season to make the score 8-0 through the sixth inning.

The Hatters avoided the run-rule in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on a walk and hit-by-pitch in consecutive at-bats with the bases loaded, making it 8-2 after six innings.

Senior Kaylie Wallace earned the win in the circle for the Ospreys in game two, throwing all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and six walks while striking out two.

The Ospreys have two more regular season games and are back in action Saturday in Orlando taking on UCF at 2 p.m.
