NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The North Florida softball team took the final game in their Atlantic Sun Series with Lipscomb Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.
The Ospreys (25-23, 7-8 A-Sun) held off a late rally by the Lady Bisons (21-22, 7-5 A-Sun) to take game three of the series 7-6 and prevent the sweep.
"Our offense really came alive as we went deeper into the game," said coach
Marcie Hickey. "A lot of different people came up with big hits to give us a 6-1 lead. We were able to fight off a late Lipscomb rally after we added an insurance run in the seventh."
The Ospreys got on the board first in the top of the fourth, when junior
Stacy McClelland notched her team-leading 35
th RBI of the season with a SAC fly, scoring senior
Kelly Wilson and a 1-0 lead.
Senior
Abby Tewey made the Ospreys lead 2-0 with her first home run of the season in the top of the fifth.
After Lipscomb made the score 2-1 going into the top of the sixth, the Ospreys rallied for four runs. Freshman
Stephanie Schmidt drove in a two-run double to make the score 4-1, then freshman
Alex Arciola notched her first home run of her career with a two-run shot to make the score 6-1.
Lipscomb got a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6-3, then junior
Shelby Duncan scored freshman
Taylor Aguayo on a RBI single to make the score 7-3 Ospreys going into the bottom of the seventh.
Lipscomb rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Senior
Kayla Goff and the Ospreys' defense were able to stifle the rally and earn the 7-6 win.
Goff earned the win in the circle for the Ospreys, allowing two runs in five and one-third innings pitched while striking out four.
The Ospreys have six more conference games remaining before the Atlantic Sun Tournament; they travel to DeLand, Fla. Wednesday for a doubleheader with Stetson at 4 p.m. before hosting the River City Rumble against Jacksonville on Saturday and Sunday at the UNF Softball Complex.
