Box Score Boxscore JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 51 University of North Florida men's tennis captured its 10th victory over the season with a 4-0 triumph over East Carolina on Sunday at the UNF Tennis Complex, ending a seven-match homestand.
"We played a very clean match today," said head coach
Mark Finnegan. "We had a lot of adversity with injuries and distractions, but the guys did an amazing job at focusing on accomplishing our goals. We have put ourselves in a great position for next weekend's tournament at USF where we will take on some top-ranked teams."
UNF got out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point.
Norbert Nemcsek and
Julian Bradley posted a strong 6-1 win against Patriek Wolterbeek and Nicolas Soriano at No. 3 doubles.
Caio Gomes and
Yannick Zuern held off Colin Roller and Tendai Tapfuma 6-4 at the No. 1 spot to clinch doubles point.
In singles, Nemcsek overpowered Tapfuma 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot to give UNF the 2-0 advantage.
Lasse Muscheites put the Ospreys up 3-0 after claiming a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Damein Brenard at No. 4 singles.
Alberto De Meo had the match-winning point with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Roller on the No. 6 court.
UNF returns to action with next weekend's three-day USF Invitational. The tournament will take place at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
