SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The North Florida softball team gave up nine total home runs Saturday against conference foe USC Upstate, losing both games at Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Ospreys (21-17, 3-5 A-Sun) were run-ruled in both contests, losing game one 9-1 and game two by a score of 15-4.
In the first game of the day, the Spartans piled five runs in the third inning, including four from two home runs, to take an early 5-0 lead. North Florida responded with a RBI double by senior
Abby Tewey to cut the score to 5-1, but Upstate came back with two more home runs on solo shots and a RBI single to end the game in the bottom of the fifth, 9-1.
In game two, the Spartans scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to an early 7-0 lead. The Ospreys were able to score two runs off of a
Shelby Duncan single in the top of the third, but Upstate scored eight runs off of five more home runs in the next two innings to push their lead to 15-2.
Junior
Stacy McClelland notched a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, but the Ospreys couldn't follow with more hits and the game ended with the final score of 15-4.
The Ospreys are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the series finale against the Spartans.
