@OspreySB Splits Doubleheader with Kennesaw State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida softball team split their doubleheader with conference foe Kennesaw State Saturday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex. They fell in game one 5-3 before recovering for a 3-2 win in game two.

The Ospreys (21-12, 3-2) look to win the series tomorrow at noon in the rubber match against the Owls (18-10, 1-4).

"We did a good job today of coming out and scoring first but we need to do a better job of keeping the pressure on every inning," said coach Marcie Hickey. "We left too many runners stranded in game one."

In game one, the Ospreys took a 3-1 lead thanks to two RBI singles by junior Stacy McClelland and freshman Ashley Niesman, as well as a solo home run by senior Kelly Wilson.

The Owls made the comeback however, scoring one in the fifth before scoring three more runs in the top of the sixth inning off of three RBI singles to make the score 5-3.

In game two, the Ospreys traded the lead with the Owls until the bottom of the third, when McClelland scored Wilson on a RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

After three scoreless innings, the Ospreys loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Katie Mandigo singled over third base, bringing in Wilson and giving North Florida the 3-2 walk off win.

Senior Kaylie Wallace got the win in the pitcher's circle for the Ospreys in game two, striking out three and giving up two earned runs in two innings of work.

"Kaylie threw a good game today and we were able to put some hits together late to come out with the win in game two," added Hickey. "Every win is big in conference play so the fact that our girls were able to bounce back and take game two was huge."

Game three of this conference series has been moved up to Noon tomorrow due to expected weather later in the day. Live stats and a full recap will be provided by UNFOspreys.com
