Box Score (PDF)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Ospreys took advantage of a number of Bradley (15-4) miscues and posted double-digit runs for the seventh time this season in a 12-4 victory this evening at Harmon Stadium. North Florida improves to 16-8 on the year and records its program, Division I record, 10
th consecutive victory.
In a matchup that featured statistically two of top 10 defenses in all of college of baseball. The Braves, who committed nine errors in their first 15 games, were charged with seven in tonight's contest. The Ospreys were perfect in the field and were errorless for the 10th time this season.
Red-shirt senior
Ryan Roberson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. He also swiped his first stolen base of the season and the first since 2012. Seniors
Trent Higginbothem and
Garrick Ferguson each put together multiple hit efforts. For Higginbothem it was his team-leading, 12
th multiple-hit game. Ferguson scored a game-high three runs and upped his batting average to .311.
Freshman
Brad Deppermann once again baffled opposing pitchers and collected his second win in as many starts. He did not walk a single batter in his longest outing of the year and struck out six batters.
North Florida jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs in their first two turns at the plate. A four-run, first inning happened all with two outs. Roberson ripped a single into left field that scored
Donnie Dewees and Higginbothem.
Nick Karmeris and
Corbin Olmstead followed up with back-to-back RBI doubles to put to cap the Osprey first inning. North Florida added a pair of unearned runs in the second inning for a commanding 6-0 lead.
After a Bradley run in the third, the Ospreys opened up the floodgates in the fourth, plating four more runs. RBI Singles by Higginbothem, Roberson and
Keith Skinner combined with three more Bradley errors, put the Ospreys up 10-1.
For the second time this season an opponent hit two home runs off the Osprey pitching staff. Allan Beer got the Braves on the scoreboard with his first home run of the season in the top of the third. Shortstop Tyler Leffler hit a solo homer in the eighth. The two runs in the sixth inning for the Braves came on an RBI, ground-rule double by Paul Solka.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m. Game one will feature a pair of lefties on the mound when North Florida's
