JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida softball team took both games in a Thursday doubleheader matchup with Monmouth at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys (20-11) took game one in five innings by a score of 9-1 and scored a 4-3 walk-off win in game two.
In the first game of the day, the Ospreys used three three-run innings to put the game out of reach. In the bottom of the fifth, senior
Kelly Wilson had a two-RBI double to left field, scoring freshmen
Alex Arciola and
Taylor Aguayo to make the score 8-1. Junior
Shelby Duncan then hit a deep fly ball to CF, allowing Wilson to score from second and end the game due to run-rule.
Senior
Kaylie Wallace earned the win in game one, striking out three in four innings of work.
In game two, Monmouth held a 2-0 advantage into the bottom of the fourth inning until junior
Katie Mandigo notched a RBI single, scoring freshman
Casey Estes.
The Ospreys took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with runs scored on a hit-by-pitch and a RBI fielder's choice. Monmouth then tied the game at 3-3 with a single in the top of seventh.
Freshman
Stephanie Schmidt, the starting pitcher for the Ospreys, earned the win through her bat in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single to score Mandigo and put the final at 4-3.
Senior
Kayla Goff earned the win in relief effort in the circle. She struck out three in two innings of work.
Next up for the Ospreys is conference foe Kennesaw State at the UNF Softball Complex this Saturday and Sunday.
