JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida softball team defeated FGCU 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex to win their first Conference series of the season.
The Ospreys (18-11) knocked in three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away from the Eagles (16-15).
FGCU scored the first run of the game off of a throwing error to the plate, but that was their only run of the contest.
North Florida scored one run in the bottom of the third to tie it up at 1-1. Then in the bottom of the fifth, junior
Shelby Duncan and senior
Abby Tewey notched back-to-back RBI hits to left field to make the score 3-1.
Later in the inning, freshman
Alex Arciola knocked a single into center field, scoring freshman
Casey Estes and making the score the eventual final of 4-1.
Senior
Kayla Goff threw a three-hit, one-run performance in her second start of the weekend, striking out four in the win, improving her season record to 9-2. Against the Eagles this weekend, Goff totaled 14 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight.
Next up for the Ospreys is a midweek doubleheader against Monmouth on Thursday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.
