BOCA RATON, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team split their first two games of their weekend at the FAU Invitational this Friday, defeating Albany 10-2 but losing to FAMU 3-2.
The Ospreys (9-3) piled on the runs in the first game of the day, but failed to package enough hits together to win their doubleheader.
"We came out really strong in the first game today," said
Marcie Hickey. "We put everything together and got the five inning win [in game one]. Kayla threw well and let our defense make plays and Niesman was awesome at the plate with 6 RBIs. In game two we had a lot of hard hits right at their outfielders. FAMU came out swinging and adjusted well to our pitchers."
In the first game of the day against Albany, it was freshman
Ashley Niesman who powered the Ospreys' lineup. In the first inning she drove a first pitch over the left center wall, scoring three RBIs and putting the Ospreys up 3-0.
Niesman added an RBI single as part of a four-run third inning before hitting another home run in deep left field, scoring two and totaling six RBIs on the day.
In the opener against Albany, senior
Kayla Goff moved her record to 5-1, throwing her third complete game of the season.
It was a completely different story in the afternoon matchup with FAMU. The Ospreys could not manage to package hits together, stranding five runners in the 3-2 loss in their third and final matchup of the season with the Rattlers.
The Ospreys are back in action tomorrow when they face Princeton at 12:15 p.m. before facing host FAU at 7 p.m.
