JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior
Kelly Wilson and junior
Katie Mandigo combined for 5 RBIs as the North Florida Softball team defeated FAMU 8-1 Wednesday night at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys (8-2) put up five runs in the first two innings behind RBI singles by Mandigo and junior
Shelby Duncan, as well as an RBI double by Wilson.
"We came out really strong today and scored in consecutive innings to put the game out of reach early," said head coach
Marcie Hickey. "
Stephanie Schmidt pitched really well in her first complete game of the season and our offense maintained a comfortable lead for her. It was a great game to get back on track as we head to FAU for the weekend."
Wilson got her second RBI of the day with her first home run of the season and her third of her career over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-0.
The Ospreys added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth behind a Mandigo RBI triple and a RBI single by freshman
Ashley Niesman.
FAMU added one run in the top of the fifth and both teams went scoreless through the final two innings.
Freshman
Stephanie Schmidt earned the win in her second career start. She allowed one run on six hits while striking out four in seven innings of work.
Wilson finished her day 3-for-4 with two RBIs, lacking only the triple for the cycle, while Mandigo finished 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBIs.
The Ospreys hit the road this weekend for five games in three days at the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. They start their weekend with Albany at 10 a.m. and their third matchup with FAMU this season at 12:15 p.m.
