JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida volleyball team closes out a four-game road stretch this weekend with a pair of matches at NJIT and Lipscomb. The weekend swing also marks the conclusion of the Ospreys regular season road schedule.
UNF will face A-Sun newcomers, NJIT, on Friday night at 7 p.m. before catching a plane for a Sunday meeting with conference co-leader Lipscomb, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Ospreys got back on the winning track last week posting a 2-1 record with wins over Florida A&M and a hard fought 3-2 road victory at Stetson. UNF owns an 18-9 overall this season and is 4-6 in the Atlantic Sun.
In the first meeting of the season with the Highlanders, North Florida posted a 3-0 sweep in scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-15. Against the Bisons, UNF fell in straight sets, 33-31, 25-17, 25-17.
Tessa Alyman and
Carina Hoff lead the Osprey offense with each player averaging 3.07 kills per set. Hoff is also the team's top hitter connecting at a .327 pace, followed closely by
Katarina Raicevic at .302. UNF features a pair of quality setters with
Abby Fesl averaging 7.85 assists per set and
Carinne Turner chipping in 4.97 per set.
Defensively, North Florida averages 1.92 blocks and 15.13 digs per set as a team.
Kimberly Ferguson tops the dig list at 4.07 while freshman
Ashley LaBorde as tallied double digit digs in each of the last three matches including a career best 28 in the 5-set victory over Stetson.
Morgan Van Alstine paced the UNF frontline averaging 0.91 blocks per set.
Following this weekend's competition, North Florida closes out the regular season with a pair of home matches against Kennesaw State (Nov. 13) and USC Upstate (Nov. 14). The Ospreys will recognize their senior class following the Upstate match next Saturday.
