Final Boxscore (pdf)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida volleyball team closed out the non-conference portion of their 2015 schedule Wednesday night with an impressive 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-15) sweep over in-state foe Florida A&M at UNF Arena.
The Ospreys improved to 17-8 overall on the season and snapped a three-game losing skid with the victory over the Rattlers (6-18). UNF finished the season with a 14-3 record in non-conference play including an undefeated 4-0 mark at home.
"I was really proud of our effort tonight," said head coach
Steve Loeswick. "We've had some good practices recently and it was nice to see some of the things we've worked on carry over into the match. It was nice to get the win at home as we get ready for a couple of competitive road trips."
UNF used an efficient offense that connected at a .349 clip for the match and converted at nearly 70 percent in sideout situations. Four players posted hitting percentages of .300 or better led by
Carina Hoff's .700 performance with seven kills in 10 attempts and no errors.
Tessa Alyman topped the Osprey attack with 11 kills while
Erin Edwards,
Courtney Miller,
Katarina Raicevic and
Ambre Desaulnay each chipped in six kills.
Ashley LaBorde paced UNF defensively finishing with 14 digs.
Set one saw the two squads seesaw back-and-forth with the lead. With the score knotted at six, UNF grabbed the momentum with a 6-2 spurt and then closed out the frame with a 7-2 run for the 25-16 decision.
The Rattlers struck quickly in set two scoring four of the first five points. North Florida battled back and then earned their first lead of the set, 12-8, behind six straight points. After trading points for several possessions, UNF moved to set point but saw FAMU rallied with four straight points before Desaulney closed the frame with a solid smash at the net.
North Florida dominated the third set from the start racing out to an 8-2 lead. UNF used an 8-1 surge midway through the stanza to build a 19-7 advantage and then closed out the match for the 25-15 win.
The Ospreys hit the road for four consecutive road tilts beginning this weekend with a trip south to face FGCU on Friday at 7 p.m. and Stetson at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
