Box Score Boxscore

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 69 University of North Florida men's tennis powered past No. 73 College of Charleston with a home-opening 7-0 shutout of the Cougars in front of a great crowd on Sunday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

"College of Charleston was our second-best win last year, so to come out with a 7-0 victory and show some dominance was impressive," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "We still have a lot of things to work on, but we'll address them before our match on Wednesday with FAU. We had a great crowd out there today and hope they had fun. We appreciate everyone for coming out to today's match."

UNF quickly claimed the doubles point in order to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Caio Gomes and Julian Bradley had the Ospreys' first doubles win, cruising to a 6-2 victory over Charlie Ghriskey and Josh Record on the No. 3 court. No. 28 Jack Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek clinched the doubles point not too long after, capturing a 6-3 triumph against Brice Allanic and Alon Faiman at the No. 1 spot.

UNF's first three singles points were two-set victories, while the last three points came in three-set decisions.

No. 72 Findel-Hawkins took a 6-3, 6-4 win against Encinas at No. 1 singles to give UNF the two-point advantage in the team score. Bradley put UNF up 3-0 after a 6-3, 6-3 win against Zack Lewis at No. 5 singles. Nemcsek's 6-4, 7-5 victory against Ghriskey on the No. 3 court ultimately sealed the match win for the Ospreys.

Lasse Muscheites fought back after a first-set defeat to claim a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Vasily Kichigan at No. 4 singles. On the No. 2 court, Gomes held off Allanic 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-2. Zach Goldberg finished the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory against Franz Sydow at No. 6 singles.

UNF returns to action on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Florida Atlantic at 3 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all UNF men's tennis home matches.
