Weekly Notes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The final early season tournament for University of North Florida volleyball takes place with this weekend's two-day Radisson Invitational at UNF Arena. In addition to UNF, other participants include Charlotte, Dayton, Jacksonville, Nicholls State and UNC Asheville.

"It's a great opportunity to play some really good competition on our home court," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "We had a solid week of practice and are still striving to get better every time we enter the gym. We're looking forward to continuing our climb to be the best we can be on our side of the net."

It is the second home tournament in which the Ospreys co-host with Jacksonville. Matches will be split between UNF Arena and Jacksonville's Swisher Gymnasium. All UNF matches will be at UNF Arena.

The Ospreys begin the tournament against Nicholls State (10 a.m.) and Charlotte (7 p.m.) on Friday and conclude it against Dayton (10 a.m.) and UNC Asheville (3 p.m.) on Saturday. Friday night's match with Charlotte is themed "Pirate Night" with the first 100 fans receiving eye-patches.

UNF comes off a 1-2 showing at last weekend's Hampton Inn & Suites of Holly Springs Invitational. The Ospreys started out strong with a 3-2 win over Elon on the first day of the tournament, but stumbled against Campbell and South Carolina on the second day.

Courtney Miller earned All-Tournament honors after tallying 40 kills, including a career-high 18 against Elon. Both Miller and Carinne Turner recorded the first double-double of their Osprey careers against Elon. Miller added 14 digs to her 18 kills, while Turner had a 34-assist, 16-dig double-double.

Nicholls State concludes a 13-match road swing with this weekend's tournament. The last six matches have been 3-0 sweeps, but the Colonels have been on the losing end of those sweeps for the last five matches. Kaci Eaton, who is the only Colonel with 100+ kills, averages 4.00 kills per set. Kalynn Egea has a 5.55 dig-per-set average.

Nicholls State leads the all-time series with UNF 1-0. The Colonels defeated the Ospreys 3-2 on Aug. 25, 2012 at the Tiger Invitational in what was Loeswick's first indoor tournament as UNF's head coach.

Charlotte has gone 8-2 in tournament play and was a perfect 3-0 at last weekend's Wildcat Classic. However, the 49ers come off a 3-2 loss to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, which was their third-straight five-set mid-week loss. Irem Asci leads Charlotte with 174 kills and 3.55 kills per set, while Britney Leigh Held averages 10.54 assists per set.

Charlotte leads the all-time series 1-0 after a 3-1 win over the Ospreys on Sept. 9, 2006 at the UNC Charlotte Invitational.

Dayton has registered a 2-1 record in each of its previous three tournaments. The Flyers have won their last two matches, including a 3-2 win against Xavier on Tuesday. The Radisson Invitational is Dayton's first trip out of Ohio this season. Alaina Turner and Jill Lolars have combined for 272 of the team's 494 total kills. Turner also averages 4.32 kills per set, while Jane Emmenecker is putting up 10.4 assists per set.

Saturday's match is the first meeting between UNF and Dayton.

UNC Asheville attempts to rebound from a four-match skid in which all four losses were 3-0 sweeps. The Bulldogs have already faced two Atlantic Sun teams in USC Upstate and Kennesaw State. Christine Lakatos and Shelby Erickson each have a team-best 85 kills.

UNF leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 1-0 after winning 3-1 on Nov. 6, 1993.
