
School Records Highlights Final Day of A-Sun Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Ospreys set school records in three events on the final day of the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Hodges Stadium.

"We came out and competed hard today," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "This conference is stacked with talent and I couldn't be happier with the way we finished. We're a very young team with a lot of talent and I can see that we are definitely on the rise as we look to compete at the highest level."

The men's 4x100-meter relay team, comprised of freshman Marques Burgman, freshman Caleb Collins, senior Dante Bouldin and junior Jacoby Hadden, broke the school record with a time of 41.75 in their silver medal performance.

Freshman Kyle Crompton also broke his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.51. Compton's performance puts him at 53rd in the east region.

In the men's 400-meter dash, junior Cecil Rolle placed fourth in his school record performance of 48.24. Freshman Desmond Robb finished behind him in fifth place with a time of 49.23.

Rolle, Robb, Hadden and Crompton finished in third place with a time of 3:15.59 in the men's 4x400-meter relay.

Hadden, who ran in four events today including the relay teams, earned bronze medal honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.93 and was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.20.

Junior Stephen Krupa had a solid performance in the high jump, clearing 1.96m (6-05.00) to finish tied for fourth.

The men's team finished fourth as a team with 77.5 points after all 21 events scored.

Junior Alessandra Valdes earned runner-up honors in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.38. After battling injuries throughout the year, sophomore Alexis Irwin came out and finished a solid 4:39.66, good for fourth place. Junior Andelka Tancic placed seventh with a time of 4:45.13 after coming off a second place finish last night in the 10,000-meter run.

In the women's 800-meter run, the Ospreys were able to pick up 18 points, led by silver medalist Vanessa Philbert (2:12.31) with Valdes finishing closely in fourth with a time of 2:14.40. Freshmen Morgan Rodriguez (2:16.30) and Rachel Licea (2:17.57) finished in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Rodriguez, Philbert, Valdes and Alyssa Younker finished the night on the podium with the bronze medal in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:49.99.

Coming into 5000-meter run, junior Elle Baker knew that she had to have a solid performance to hold off Lipscomb. Baker's fifth place performance of 17:20.52 helped the Ospreys gain four points.

Younker and senior Christina Johnson both set seasons best in the 400-meter hurdles. Younker came in fifth with a time of 1:02.98 and Johnson came in right after in sixth place with a time of 1:03.81.

Senior Marla Collins finished the season strong with her performance in the high jump. Collins cleared 1.66m (5-05.25) to finish in fifth place.

The women's team also placed fourth after 21 events with 93.5 points.

"We hosted a great meet this weekend," said Pigg. "It's amazing to be a part of the UNF family and can't thank the staff and everyone that helped make this meet turn out the way it did."

The Ospreys will await regional selections to see who among them will be invited to the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round on May 29-31 held at Hodges Stadium.
