Weekly Notes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The road portion of University of North Florida volleyball's regular season schedule comes to an end with a pair of Atlantic Sun matches this weekend. The Ospreys visit USC Upstate on Friday at 6 p.m., at the Hodge Center and then travel to Kennesaw State on Saturday at 3 p.m., at the KSU Convocation Center. Both matches will air live on ESPN3.

"This weekend is very important," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "Both USC Upstate and Kennesaw will put up a great fight in their home gyms. Our team understands that we have to play well this entire weekend. They are focused and looking forward to the challenges."

The USC Upstate-Kennesaw State is UNF's only set of road matches during the second half of Atlantic Sun play. UNF closes out the regular season with four straight home matches at UNF Arena.

UNF rides a five-match winning streak into the weekend, which is the Ospreys' longest winning streak since reeling off eight consecutive victories Oct. 26-Nov. 16, 2012. This current streak includes two nonconference road wins and three Atlantic Sun victories.

The Ospreys continue to be the top blocking team in the Atlantic Sun with 191.0 total blocks and a 2.03 block per set average. In the latest NCAA Statistical Rankings that were released on Thursday, UNF's 191.0 total blocks ranks No. 91, while its 2.03 blocks per set is No. 168 nationally.

This Friday's match will be the 12th time in program history in which the Ospreys have played on Halloween. UNF is 8-3 with Halloween matches, but in its last Oct. 31 match, UNF was swept 3-0 by Lipscomb in 2009.

Both USC Upstate and Kennesaw State finish up their home schedule this weekend.

USC Upstate returns back to its home court at the Hodge Center after a three-match road swing. The Spartans have lost their last 10 matches, but have gone to five sets in three of its last four matches, including against UNF two weeks ago. USC Upstate continues to lead the Atlantic Sun with 1,550 total digs and 16.67 digs per set. Four Spartans have over 230 digs for the season, including Kaleigh Kelley (297) and Kayla Eversgerd (294). Eversgerd, who tallied 34 digs against the Ospreys earlier this season, also leads the Spartans with 243 kills.

UNF leads the all-time series with USC Upstate 31-6.

Kennesaw State finishes a three-match homestand this weekend with its match. The Owls snapped a five-match skid with a 3-2 win over USC Upstate last Saturday and comes into the weekend 2-3 in Atlantic Sun home matches. Kelly Marcinek is fourth in the Atlantic Sun in kills per set (3.19) and has a team-best 268 kills. Katarina Morton, who was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, has 353 digs for the year and is averaging 4.41 digs per set.

Kennesaw State leads the all-time series 8-5.
