Weekly Notes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The nonconference portion of University of North Florida volleyball's 2014 schedule comes to an end on Tuesday night when the Ospreys make the trip west on I-10 to Florida A&M for a 7 p.m., match at the Al Lawson Center.

"Florida A&M is a very good and talented program that has played some tough competition this season," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "We know we have to be consistent with our play throughout the entire match. We have been playing well in the recent weeks, but know that there are some pieces of our game that we need to continue to improve on. We are hopeful this match will give us the opportunity to get better."

The Ospreys have won their last three matches, which included a road win at Bethune-Cookman and two key Atlantic Sun home victories last weekend.

Earlier on Monday, Cari Whitmire and Courtney Miller were announced as the Atlantic Sun's Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively. Whitmire recorded consecutive 30-or-more dig matches against Kennesaw State and USC Upstate, becoming the only Atlantic Sun player with multiple 30-dig matches this season. Meanwhile, Miller tallied a pair of double-doubles, bringing her double-double total up to seven for the season. Miller's made a double-double in each of her last four matches.

Florida A&M plays its third consecutive nonconference match on Tuesday night and have already faced Florida Gulf Coast and No. 4 Florida State. After starting the season 0-10, the Lady Rattlers went on a seven-match winning streak that was halted with last Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast. Florida A&M has played five nationally-ranked teams already this season, including three that were in the Top 5 at the time the match was played. Pamela Soriano is averaging a team-best 4.31 kills per set.

After winning both matches last season, Florida A&M leads the all-time series with the Ospreys 6-4.
