@OspreyVB Travels to Bethune-Cookman for Tuesday Night Match

Weekly Notes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The last contest of a six-match road swing takes place on Tuesday night as University of North Florida volleyball makes the quick trip south to Bethune-Cookman in what is the Ospreys' first mid-week match of the season.

"Our team has been really focused recently and are looking forward to every opportunity to put on the UNF jersey," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "Bethune-Cookman has some very good athletes that will create challenges for us at the net."

It is the second time UNF plays Bethune-Cookman this season. The two teams met at UNF Arena on Sept. 6 with UNF sweeping the Lady Wildcats 3-0 at the Jax Marriott Volleyball Classic.

UNF searches for its first road win of the season. The road has not been friendly for the Ospreys, who are 0-7 in designated away matches and have dropped their last five. However, UNF comes off a pair of five set matches at Northern Kentucky and Atlantic Sun leader Lipscomb. The Ospreys took Lipscomb to extra points in the fifth set and fended off match point multiple times.

The Ospreys continue to be the Atlantic Sun's top blocking team with 152 total blocks on the season. As a team, UNF has total at least 10.0 total team blocks in three of the last four matches. Sophomore Morgan Van Alstine is one of three players in the Atlantic Sun to have a single-match best 10.0 blocks, while senior Cameron McGuire and sophomore Erin Edwards have each recorded 9.0 blocks in a single match.

Bethune-Cookman attempts to rebound from a 3-0 setback at Florida A&M on Friday. The Lady Wildcats are 0-4 this season against Atlantic Sun teams. Tuesday night is the first of three straight matches for Bethune-Cookman against Atlantic Sun teams. Rhea Simon, who led Bethune-Cookman with 12 kills against UNF on Sept. 6, has a team-best 226 kills and averages 2.94 kills per set.

UNF leads the all-time series 16-1.

Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m., from Moore Gymnasium.
