Boxscore

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team scored nine runs in the final four innings to claim a 10-2 victory over Jacksonville on Friday night at John Sessions Field. The Ospreys (30-12, 12-4 Atlantic Sun) claimed the first game of the 2013 edition of the SunTrust River City Rumble over the Dolphins (14-27, 7-9 A-Sun).

North Florida pushed 10 runs across the plate on 13 hits, including four extra base hits. Corey Bass had the biggest hit of the night, hitting a solo home run in the top of the third inning. Ryan Roberson finished the game with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Bass also finished the game with a pair of runs scored, while Kyle Brooks also drove in two runs. Donnie Dewees, Spencer Herrmann and Drew Weeks each notched doubles on the night.

On the mound, starter Tommy Organ earned a no-decision on the night. The southpaw allowed two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings of work. Organ did not allow a walk and struck out a pair of batters. Four of the senior's five innings were 1-2-3 innings.

Corbin Olmstead worked the next 3.0 scoreless innings. The Tampa native surrendered a pair of hits without a walk. Olmstead struck out two batters on the night en route to his second victory of the season.

Ryan McMahon worked the final inning. The junior allowed a pair of singles in the ninth, but worked out of a bases loaded jam to end the game and secure the victory.

North Florida was the first team to plate a runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Bass put the Ospreys on the scoreboard on one pitch as the senior lifted an 0-1 pitch over the right field wall. The home run was Bass' fifth of the season and the ninth of his career.

The Ospreys added a run in the top of the sixth inning. Tyler Marincov led off the inning with a walk and moved into scoring position with his team-leading 14th stolen base of the season. With one out, Roberson delivered a RBI single through the right side of the infield to score Marincov and give UNF a 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the sixth inning. JU's Kris Molter led off the inning with a triple to right field, just out of reach of a diving Marincov. The Ospreys caught Molter in a run down, but an errant throw allowed the runner to score, trimming the lead to 2-1. The Dolphins continued the inning with a single, prompting a pitching change by the Ospreys. JU moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt and a single left the hosts with runners on the corners. The Dolphins knotted the game with a RBI single through the right side of the infield. The Ospreys ended the inning with a fielder's choice with the game tied at 2-2.

North Florida regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Nick Karmeris led off the inning with a walk. Garrick Ferguson entered the game to pinch run for N. Karmeris. Brooks drew a walk to give UNF a pair of base runners. Bass attempted to lay down a bunt and was able to reach safely with an infield single to load the bases. Joe Wielbruda gave the Ospreys the lead with a RBI groundout. With runners on second and third, North Florida increased its advantage to 4-2 on a wild pitch. The Ospreys scored the final run of the inning thanks to a fielding error by the Dolphins.

The Ospreys increased their lead with two runs in the top of the eighth and three runs in the ninth.

In the eighth, Dewees walked and Roberson followed with a single. A groundout advanced the runners 90 feet. Herrmann pinch hit and reached base on a fielder's choice. On the play, Herrmann advanced to second while Roberson moved to third. Brooks plated the runners with a two-RBI single.

The Ospreys added three insurance runs in the ninth. UNF recorded four consecutive hits, including three doubles by Dewees, Weeks and Herrmann to score three runs and provide the final margin of victory at 10-2.
