ATLANTA, Ga. -- The men's tennis match between the University of North Florida and Georgia State University scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday was cancelled due to rain.
When the match was cancelled, the Ospreys led 2-1 and were very close to clinching the contest. After a sluggish doubles point that saw UNF fall for just the sixth time in 15 matches this season, the Ospreys seized back the momentum in singles play.
Senior
Pedro Davisson levelled the match at 1-1 in short order, winning at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4, before senior
Moritz Buerchner knocked off Victor Valente at No. 1 in a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win. The duo represented the only two singles matches completed before rain moved in over Atlanta.
At No. 6 singles, senior
Leonardo Nahar had bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the opening set to win the second set and seize control of the match. Nahar led the third set, 5-4, and was serving for the match at 40-15 when play was suspended. Senior
Daniel Sotomarino was also in control at No. 2, having won the first set and taken a 4-1 lead in the second. Sotomarino was playing for a pair of break points prior to the rain.
Senior
Julien Belair, at No. 3, and sophomore Norbert Nemscek, at No. 4, were both in the middle of the third set when play was halted. However, due to the cancellation, no official results will be recorded. UNF remains at 8-6 on the season.
The Ospreys will next be in action on Friday, March 22, when they travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on East Tennessee State in a rematch of last season's Atlantic Sun Tournament final.
